Welcome to Winter on the 42

Leamington's mild winters spread the warmth through Canada's coldest of months. Our climate #onthe42 allows for true enjoyment of outdoor adventure year-round. Walk our trails and stop by Seacliff Park to see the seasonal lights or pick your own Christmas Tree at our local tree farm. Here you can spend hours, not minutes, comfortably enjoying the outdoors. Spending the morning with your family at our annual Santa Claus parade is made that much sweeter by stopping for a hot cocoa at one of the many local restaurants helping you keep cozy throughout the season. Choose instead to take in our arts scene with a play at the Bank Theatre, or admiring the collections at the Leamington Arts Centre or one of our many local artisan galleries. Finish your evening off with a great authentic meal at one of our amazing cultural restaurants serving up the best Latin American, European, and Carribbean food in South Western Ontario.

Come out today to the Rick Atkin Park Gazebo from 2:00PM-4:00PM for a mix of country and classical music performed by Crystal & Ryan St.Denis. Ryan started playing and performing music as young as the age of seven. Crystal was eight years old when she started her musical journey, starting to perform at the age of ten.

When they are not busy with their 10 month year old twin girls, this amazing couple enjoys performing for the senior residents and travelling all the way to Florida to share their art. Crystal uses her talent to not only bring enjoyment to the world, but to also create anti-bullying campaigns throughout the Chatham-Kent community.

If you enjoy for a wide range of music from country, rock, the oldies, to show tunes, Crystal & Ryan can perform it all! Ryan and Crystal enjoy evoking the memories of old classic songs and welcomes everyone to join to reminisce. Itโ€™s #ThrowBackThursday! Can anyone identify this building?

Leonard Wigle received 200 acres in Mersea Township from his father John Wigle, who originally received the land as a grant from the Crown. Leonard settled on the property around 1835 and erected a log cabin which soon became a tavern and stopping point for travelers along the Talbot Trail. By 1850, he replaced the original cabin with the Georgian-style building which still stands on the spot today (seen in this photo). Until the 1870s, it was where the original Mersea Township council held their meetings and for a number of years it also served as a post office.

Fun fact: It was Leamingtonโ€™s first designated heritage property on January 14th 1985.

If you said the Wigle Homestead, thatโ€™s correct!

Who is this weekโ€™s Marina Live Music Patio performer? Come out tonight to the Leamington Marina @7:30PM to listen to Lady J'ai Mac & Friends!
A small town girl from Amherstburg, who could sing before she even started kindergarten, grew up performing in a variety of choirs for school and church. She also happens to be a member of the Leamington Regional Songwriters Group. You may even find her at The Kingsville Folk Music Festival, as she considers it to be her favourite weekend of the summer.
Her show will have a variety of songs from across different genres and decades. She is considered to be a cover artist and prides herself in mimicking the sound and song of specific artists. She performs Janis Joplin, Reba, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Little Big Town and many more!
Lady Jโ€™ai Mac wants to spread the message of courage and love to all of her audiences. Many of the female artists that she sings from have demonstrated to her perseverance and dedication in their pasts. She loves spending her time supporting many local charities and enlisting her band mates to commit their time as well. Itโ€™s #FlashBackFriday! Today high-rise apartment buildings are common around Leamington. However, in September 1974 Leamington Towerโ€™s, a complex of two large apartment buildings, would eclipse the Centennial Apartment Building on Talbot St. West. What is now the eastern tower was being constructed next door to Zellerโ€™s/ A&P Mall on Erie St. South. A couple of things to note. On the right hand side is the Dibbrell Bros. Tobacco factory water tower and on the left one can see the twin H. J. Heinz Co. smoke stacks, of which only one remains standing. Also there was no fence dividing the parking lot from the tower. When it was completed, the apartment would be Leamington's tallest building.

Seacliff Parkโ€™s history dates back to the year 1850 when Peter Conover came to Leamington and developed 170 acres along the Lake Erie shoreline as Sea Cliff Park Farm, setting aside 20 acres as park land. In 1907, the Conover family sold the land to the Town of Leamington as a municipal park. The pavilion was built in 1914 and was a popular gathering spot for many years until it was torn down in the 1950s. The pavilion and ball grounds at Seacliff Park are seen in this photo around 1920.

What are your favourite memories at Seacliff Park?

Be sure to check out the Canada Day festivities taking place this weekend at Seacliff Park!

The original occupants of 21-27 Erie Street North were the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), which were located in the building from 1925 until 1940.
If you look closely at the pediment located above the ground level entrance, you will notice it is inscribed with the date โ€˜1925โ€™, as well as the most widely encountered symbol of the IOOF, the three-link chain with three initials, 'F', 'L' and 'T', one inside each link, signifying Friendship, Love and Truth.
Most recently the building has undergone a major transformation and is being brought back to life by its current owners. Swipe to see the after photo.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day, everyone! In cooperation with Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ national organizations, the Government of Canada designated June 21 National Indigenous Peoples Day, a celebration of Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ culture and heritage.
In 1990, Quebec became the first province or territory to establish June 21 as a day to celebrate Indigenous culture. This date was chosen because it corresponds to the summer solstice. This is the longest day of the year, and for generations many Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ groups have celebrated their culture and heritage at this time of year.
Across Canada, the day is marked by ceremonies that highlight cultural performances and activities, displays of arts and crafts, and events that recognize the contributions by Indigenous people. Visit http://bit.ly/2M7DYIS for more information! #IndigenousPeoplesDay #ExperienceLeamington
